Asia Pacific region airports handle 1.43bn passengers in 2011: ACI

ACI Asia Pacific announced (03-Apr-2012) a 5.7% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for the Asia Pacific area and a 8.4% increase for the Middle East in 2011. Total passenger numbers for the Asia Pacific region was 1.43 billion in 2011. Total freight traffic carried by the two areas amounted to 35.8 million tonnes in 2011, equivalent to 41% of the world's total freight traffic recorded by ACI. [more - original PR]

ACI: "Several airports in the region have achieved impressive double digit growth in 2011 due to the robust economic growth in those countries and the rising propensity to travel in the region. They include New Delhi (DEL), up by 21%, Jakarta (CGK) 19%, Bangkok (BKK) 12% and also Guangzhou (CAN), Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL) all up by about 10%." Source: Company report, 03-Apr-2012.
