Asia Pacific airports pax up 7% in May-2012, fifth consecutive month of growth

ACI Asia Pacific reported (11-Jul-2012) passenger traffic at Asia Pacific-region airports continued to show "strong and steady" growth, increasing 7.1% year-on-year while Middle Eastern airports remained resilient to the economic downturn, reporting an 11.5% increase in May-2012, the fifth consecutive month of double-digit growth. According to the industry association, Beijing Airport continued to report the highest passenger numbers with more than 6.7 million passengers, followed by Tokyo Haneda (5.4 million passengers), Hong Kong, Dubai and Bangkok. Cargo volume at Asia Pacific airports increased for the second consecutive month in May-2012, after declines in the first three months of 2012. Details include:

  • Passenger traffic: +7.1% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: +5.2%;
    • International: +10.2%;
  • Cargo volume: +1.3%;
