American Airlines to expand operations at Los Angeles in summer 2016

American Airlines announced (20-Jan-2016) plans to expand operations at Los Angeles International Airport in summer 2016, offering more connections "to more destinations than any other carrier." The carrier will build two new gates to support the following services to nine new year-round and seasonal destinations as well as added frequencies to existing destinations, from 02-Jun-2016:

  • Los Angeles-Seattle: Five times daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Portland: Three times daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Minneapolis/Saint Paul: Twice daily service;
  • Los Angeles-New Orleans: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Kansas City: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Omaha: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Hartford: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Anchorage: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Durango: Twice weekly service;
  • Los Angeles-Jackson Hole: Daily service;
  • Los Angeles-Montrose: Twice weekly service;
  • Los Angeles-Vail/Eagle: Twice weekly service.

American plans to hire 200 additional employees in 2016, building on the nearly 500 jobs added at LAX since its merger closed with US Airways in Dec-2013. The carrier is also extending its dedication to Los Angeles with a multi-year deal as the exclusive airline partner of the Hollywood Bowl. American's chief marketing officer Andrew Nocella said, "In 2016, we'll make our Flagship Lounge and Admirals Club even better with an enhanced and upgraded lounge experience.
