American Airlines says the worst appears to be behind the airline industry

American Airlines stated that the worst appears to be behind the airline industry and it expects revenue for 4Q2009 to down 4.5-5.5% year-on-year (Dallas Morning News, 09-Dec-2009). American stated advance bookings through to Feb-2010 are "flat" year-on-year, with international bookings up nearly 3%, but domestic bookings weaker (AP, 09-Dec-2009)

American Airlines: "I think we are seeing improvement in leisure and premium traffic at this point. While the domestic markets appear to have recovered at a faster pace than international routes, we're starting to see some improvement in those as well which has been driven by capacity reduction…We are modestly encouraged by the revenue trends we're seeing", Beverly Goulet, Treasurer and VP.
