Amadeus: Airlines earned USD22bn in ancillary sales in 2010

Amadeus reports airline ancillary revenue add-ons to ticket prices in 2010 reached approximately USD22 billion (Wall Street Journal, 30-May-2011). Airlines are increasingly charging for services once included in ticket prices, including baggage and meals, as well as pay-for-access to lounges and in-flight internets. The 47 largest carriers accounted for a combined USD15.11 billion in ancillary revenue, up 38% from 2009.
