Airfreight growth momentum decelerated in Sep-2016, yields down 9%: IATA

IATA, via its 3Q2016 Cargo Chartbook, reported (26-Oct-2016) global FTKs increased 6.1% year-on-year in Sep-2016 and increased 2% for the first nine months of 2016. The air cargo market was weak in 1Q2016 but recovered and grew in 2Q2016 and 3Q2016. Monthly growth momentum decelerated in Sep-2016 largely due to weaker performance in domestic FTKs. In-service widebody freighter capacity for continued to grow for the sixth consecutive quarter in 3Q2016. Strong growth in passenger demand continues to exacerbate capacity issues. Load factors improved in 3Q2016, potentially at the expense of lower freighter aircraft utilisation. Yields decreased 9% in Sep-2016. [more - original PR]
