Aeroporti di Roma takes part in Olympic bid

Italy's government announced plans to expand Rome Fiumicino Airport and construct an airport in Viterbo, which will be dedicated to LCC operations, to help its bid for the 2020 Olympic Games (World Aeronautical Press Agency, 22-Feb-2011). Aeroporti di Roma, the operator of Rome Fiumicino, announced it has restarted it investment plans, which includes:

  • The creation of an automated handling for transit baggage;
  • The improvement of passenger services;
  • Boost duty free sales;
  • Expanding the size of the airport's area, to cater for future growth.
