Aer Lingus: Restructuring has ensured it remains relevant to the Irish market
Aer Lingus CEO Stephen Kavanagh, speaking at CAPA's Airlines in Transition Conference on 25/26-Mar-2015, stated (25-Mar-2015) the carrier has changed how it has positioned itself since the early 2000s, moving to end unsustainable losses and restructured to be relevant to the market. Over the space of three years, unit revenue at the carrier fell by 45%, but it dropped unit costs by 52%. Aer Lingus has leveraged its cost reductions efforts, reporting consistent profits and maintaining relevance in the market place, with a 40% share of traffic to/from Ireland.
