ACI Europe reports persistent traffic decline in Jun-2012
ACI Europe reported (06-Aug-2012) passenger numbers at European airports increased 2.9% year-on-year while cargo volume increased for the first time in almost a year to +0.8% in Jun-2012. Aircraft movements at European airports fell 0.1% in Jun-2012. According to the industry association, "the first half of the year witnessed a significant and persistent fall in traffic growth, with the boost in June from the European football championship doing little to counter this downward trend". Details include:
- Jun-2012:
- Passenger numbers: +2.9% year-on-year;
- Cargo volume: +0.8%;
- Aircraft movements: -0.1%;
- Six months ended 30-Jun-2012:
- Passenger numbers: +2.3%;
- Cargo volume: -3.4%;
- Aircraft movements: -1.6%. [more - original PR]
ACI Europe: "While the traffic results for June are showing some improvement, one swallow does not a summer make. Some airports received a much-needed boost from the European football championship, but the wider industry context remains grim. The results for the first half of the year again reflect the fundamental economic weaknesses being experienced," Olivier Jankovec, director general. Source: Company statement, 06-Aug-2012.
