23-Aug-2012 Jetstar Japan announces second base at Osaka

  • Launching Osaka - Okinawa services from 28 October
  • Over 110,000 passengers have already travelled with Jetstar Japan

Jetstar Japan today announced the establishment of a second base at Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Osaka, Japan's third largest city, from 28 October.

The new base will enable Jetstar Japan to offer customers the opportunity to fly direct to a number of domestic destinations including Sapporo, Narita, Fukuoka and Okinawa. The Jetstar Group currently flies a number of international routes to Osaka from Australia, Singapore, Taipei and Manilla.

Jetstar Group CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka said this was an exciting new phase in the growth of Jetstar Japan which has already carried over 110,000 passengers since its launch in July.

"The Jetstar Group first commenced operations to Osaka five years ago with the launch of our Australia - Japan services," Ms Hrdlicka said.

"The establishment of this new base comprising pilots, cabin crew and engineers continues our commitment to Osaka and signifies our confidence in the future of Jetstar Japan.

"The new base will allow Jetstar Japan to commence a new route between Osaka and Okinawa from 28 October 2012."

From tomorrow, Jetstar Japan will commence flying on two new routes, Osaka-Sapporo and Osaka-Fukuoka, completing the launch network announced in April.

In addition, Jetstar Japan's fourth A320 aircraft will enter service for the airline tomorrow. By the end of the year Jetstar Japan will have eight A320 aircraft with two of these based in Osaka. Over the next few years the airline's fleet is scheduled to grow to 24 A320s.

"We are delighted with the strong customer response we have received to the commencement of Jetstar Japan," added Ms Hrdlicka.

"With over 110,000 passengers carried since July the demand for low fare travel in the market remains high."
