Garuda Indonesia and Citilink report growth in passenger numbers

13-Sep-2013

Garuda Indonesia Group, which includes the national carrier, Garuda Indonesia, and low-cost airline, Citilink, has reported an operating revenue of $1725.4 million in the first half of 2013, a rise of 14.1% from the same period in the previous year.

This increase is supported by a growth in the number of passengers carried by the group in the first half of the year by almost 24%. When comparing figures from the first half of 2012, 2.3 million extra passengers flew with the group in the same period in 2013, rising from 9.6 million to 11.9 million.

Of these 11.9 million passengers flying with Garuda Indonesia Group, 10 million flew on domestic flights compared with 7.9 million in the previous year. This trend is reflected in the number of international travellers who flew with Garuda Indonesia, which has risen by 8.5%, exceeding the average national growth of 2.3%, to reach 1.9 million this year.

In keeping with this improvement, the national airline's on-time performance also saw an increase, growing from 85.3% to reach 86.9%.

"We're extremely pleased with the results reported in 2013 so far. The figures demonstrate that Garuda Indonesia's progressive development is in keeping with the company's long-term expansion programme, Quantum Leap 2011-2015", Emirsyah Satar, CEO of Garuda Indonesia says.

"Despite the current economic climate, Garuda Indonesia continues to move forward with its business transformation and expansion programme. The Garuda Indonesia Group will welcome 24 new aircraft this year to strengthen the airline's international and domestic network" he added.

Earlier this year, Garuda Indonesia introduced the newest member of its fleet, the state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER and has added its First Class service to its award winning economy class and reputable executive class. The new aircraft has been introduced to service the first and only non-stop route from London to Jakarta, due to launch in May 2014. The airline will initially fly non-stop between Jakarta and London five times a week.
