Wednesday 5 September – LCCs & New Age Airlines in North Asia 2012 Conference Day 1

0900

Introduction: A new era for LCCs and New Age Airlines in North Asia: the potential for aviation growth in domestic and international markets

0915-0940

KEYNOTE: TBC

0940-1110

Panel: The regulatory framework: Japan, S. Korea, Greater China and Taiwan

Leading regulatory experts and government officials review the events that are shaping the North Asian environment – new open skies agreements, new LCCs, and the evolution of New Age Airlines, the hybrid forms which are adapted for the new market conditions

1110-1140

COFFEE

1140-1300

Panel: The LCC potential for airports and tourism

LCC entry into the market changes the way people travel, with more short stays, more repeat travel and more use of regional airports. This offers a great opportunity for airports and tourism operators to expand their activities. Tourism authorities, airports, chambers of commerce and tourism operators will exchange experiences in other markets

1300-1400

LUNCH

1400-1425

KEYNOTE: The Jetstar strategy in Asia as a model for LCC subsidiaries

1425-1545

CEO Panel #1: The Greater China LCC markets

Beijing has been reluctant to support domestic LCC operations, as it is anxious to protect its three major government-owned airlines from added competition. But new airlines have been emerging, notably from the Spring and Hainan groups. Meanwhile, foreign LCCs have increasingly intruded on international routes. Key CEOs explain how mainland China’s market is different – and the latest developments in Macau and Hong Kong.

1545-1615

COFFEE

1615-1745

CEO Panels #2: The Korean LCC market

Korea’s domestic and inbound markets have blossomed as new LCC entrants, including subsidiaries of Asiana and Korean Air, have expanded. Inbound tourism is, as a result, growing at around 30% year on year

Gala Dinner at a spectacular venue for all guests and speakers

Thursday 6 September – LCCs & New Age Airlines in North Asia 2012 Conference Day 2

0900-0925

KEYNOTE: Challenges and Opportunities in Asia’s international markets

0925-1045

CEO Panel #3: The Japan LCC airline market

Nowhere has the explosion in LCC operations been more marked than Japan. With three new major LCCs this year alone and a government rapidly concluding open skies agreements with Japan’s neighbours, major changes are under way. CEOs of Japan’s main airlines come together to share experiences and constraints on operating.

1045-1115

COFFEE

1115-1300

CEO Panel #4: Asia’s New Age Airlines, the needs of the new low cost, but full service/hybrid airlines.

While attention in the market is on low frills airlines, there is still demand for other products. The cost of delivery must be low – but the offering can take various forms. Issues include inflight product, distribution, airport lounges, airport IT and connectivity. New airline models are evolving to meet market needs. The New Age Airline CEOs explain why, and how they are adapting to the new market demands.

1300-1400

LUNCH

1400-1530

CEO Panels #5: The opportunities for foreign  low-cost airlines operating into N Asia

While North Asian airlines have been asleep, the Southeast Asian LCCs and hybrids have rapidly been intruding into international markets. This panel brings together CEOs from the foreign LCCs which are operating – or planning to operate - into Greater China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

1530-1600

COFFEE

1600-1700

Funding the aircraft and engine orders. Asia’s LCCs have well over 1,000 aircraft on order. Is the market big enough to support the new orders? What are the challenges? Which airlines will survive and prosper? Will the funding be there? Leading experts provide a taster of what is to come tomorrow on the finance day.
