Vueling traffic drops 8% in Feb-2011

Analysis

Vueling Airlines reported an 8% fall in Feb-2011 traffic on Friday, with passenger numbers falling by more than 50,000 to 630,000. Average load factors dropped 3 percentage points, to 68.5%. The carrier cut aircraft movements to 3.4%, but added a new aircraft to its fleet compared with 2009, taking the total to 36. Shares in Vueling were 3.3% lower on Friday.

European LCC shares were generally lower, with Norwegian down 3.5%, Dart Group - owner of Jet2.com - down 3.3% and airberlin slipping 2.9%. Asia Pacific LCC shares also traded lower, with SpiceJet and Tiger Airways recording the largest falls.

North American and Latin American LCC shares finished higher, led by GOL. The LCCs shares are down more than 15% for the year-to-date.
