TAV Airports and BAA parent, Ferrovial, rise, Macquarie Airports & Fraport up while AdP eases

Macquarie Airports' portfolio of airports reported another month of traffic declines in May-2009, but shares in MAp rose 0.5% yesterday as the airport operator expects capacity to rise at its investment airports, namely at Sydney Airport and Copenhagen Airport, this Northern Summer.

Macquarie Airports' traffic highlights in May-2009 included:

  • Passenger numbers:
    • Sydney Airport: 2.5 million, -4.4% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 1.7 million, -4.8%;
    • International: 757,000, -2.9%;
  • Copenhagen Airport: 1.7 million, -12.7%;
    • Domestic: 120,000, -7.4%;
    • International: 1.2 million, -8.6%;
    • Transfer: 423,000, -23.3%;
  • Brussels Airport: 1.5 million, -9.8%;
  • Bristol Airport: 486,000, -16.9%;
  • ASUR: 741,920, -50.7%.

At Sydney Airport, Qantas announced it is scheduled to receive its fourth A380 next month and will increase A380 frequencies on Sydney-Singapore-London and Sydney-Los Angeles sectors from early-Aug-2009. Pacific Blue also announced plans to increase Sydney capacity on trans-Tasman services to Queenstown, Wellington and Hamilton in Sep-2009.

At Copenhagen Airport, Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced plans to expand its network from Copenhagen Airport to Vienna, Dublin, Rome and Warsaw.

Elsewhere in Asia, Airports of Thailand's shares continued to fall (-3.6%), while Malaysia Airports fell 3.0% as Asia Pacific stock markets lost ground yesterday.

In Europe, TAV Airports' share rose 4.1%, while BAA owner, Ferrovial, rose 1.8% and Aeroports de Paris eased -1.3% as European Stock markets traded higher.
