Sabre Airline Solutions Enables Island Air to Automate Flight Operations in Less Than 30 Days; Islan

Analysis

Hawaii-based Island Air and Sabre Airline Solutions, the leading provider of software and services to the airline industry from planning to execution, recently announced that Sabre Airline Solutions automated the Hawaii-based carrier's flight operations in less than 30 days by implementing the Sabre Flight Control Suite.

The Flight Control Suite allows the recently independent airline to operate competitive schedules that serve passenger demand while meeting dispatch requirements and overcoming disruptions to schedules.

Components of the Sabre Flight Control Suite include the Sabre FliteTrac system with solutions for movement control, and Sabre CrewTrac and Sabre CrewQual systems for crew management. The suite, designed for airlines from start-up to mid- and large-size carriers, is ideally suited for Island Air's needs.

"From paper to computer in less than 30 days, these new systems have allowed us to achieve a new level for our flight operations and crew management offices through automation," said Rob Mauracher, Island Air CEO. "We are very pleased with the cooperation from Sabre in moving us to a new tier."

Island Air, acquired by Gavarnie Holding LLC in 2004 and now independent from the Aloha Airgroup, is Hawaii's leading regional carrier, serving more destinations in Hawaii than any other airline. Island Air offers 92 daily flights between the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii. One of the first challenges the independent airline faced was changing business processes in many areas, including flight operations and crew management.

The Sabre Airline Solutions team arrived at Island Air on Jan. 9 to begin the installation and training for the Flight Control Suite. By the end of that week, the systems were in operation and the training cycle was well underway. Training for the crew-related systems was conducted the week of Jan. 23rd, and the full cut-over of the systems was finalized on Jan. 31. Island Air became fully automated in less than a month.

"We continue to invest in enhancing and expanding our Flight Control Suite," said Steve Clampett, president of Airline Products and Services for Sabre Airline Solutions. "Our flight operations and crew management solutions currently serve more than 175 customers worldwide, including 71 carriers in North America. Island Air is one of 10 new airlines in 2005 that implemented the Flight Control Suite. Our goal is to expand our position as the leading global provider of flight operations and crew management solutions. These systems are an integral part of our strategy to provide end-to-end solutions and services to the airline industry."
