Aéroports de Paris traffic affected by unrest in Middle East and North Africa

Aéroports de Paris (AdP) reported a 0.8% increase in passenger traffic in Mar-2011 to 6.8 million. International traffic (excluding Europe) fell by 3.4%, according to AdP, due to geo-political unrest in some parts of Africa and the Middle East. On Africa and Middle-Eastern routes, traffic slumped by 8.1% and 19.6%, respectively.

All other destinations improved: French Overseas Departments and Territories (+4.2%), Asia Pacific (+3.4%), North America (+2.4%) and South America (+1.0%). European traffic (excluding France) was up by 4.0%, driven by Schengen countries (+4.2%). Great Britain and Ireland decreased by 1.6%, while traffic within France increased by 2.9%. The total number of connecting passengers rose by 1.1%, taking the transfer rate to 25.0%.

AdP estimates passenger load factors of airlines operating to its airports eased from 73.4% in Mar-2010 to 72.1% in Mar-2011.

Passenger traffic was virtually flat (+0.1%) at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport at 4.7 million.

The number of aircraft movements across the Group increased by 1.4% in Mar-2011 year-on-year. Paris CDG movements were up 0.7% year-on-year, but are still below 2009 levels.

Passenger numbers rose 2.3% at Paris Orly to 2.1 million, while movements rose 2.9%.
