CAAS wins global award by Raven Fox for supportive approach to travel retail.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has been voted the 'Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approach to Travel Retail' at the Global Travel Retail Awards for Travel-Retail Excellence 2006. The Awards were organised by Raven Fox, a UK-based global publisher of travel-retail for both print and online publications, such as the "Duty Free News International magazine".

The award was a result of votes cast by the concession operators and the brands. It is a recognition of CAAS' support given to the retailers and concessionaires operating at Changi Airport. "This award goes to show that our philosophy of treating all our concessionaires as business partners and our approach of achieving a win-win partnership with them is appreciated and acknowledged by them," said Ms Lim Peck Hoon, Director (Commercial), CAAS.

Last year, some 32.4 million passengers passed through Changi Airport, many of whom came from all over the world. To cater to the international tastes and preferences of these passengers, CAAS has juxtaposed a retail and food & beverage mix at Changi Airport to include both leading international brands as well as popular Asian and Singapore brands. In recent years, it has introduced more brands and products with unique Asian and local characters to the retail offerings at Changi Airport. This further differentiates Changi's travel retail offerings from others.

"To complement the usual high street or luxury global brands, Changi offers a wide range of Asian brands that are popular not just with travellers from the region, but even international long-haul travellers. This gives Changi's passengers, especially those who are on transit, a chance to experience local and Asian products and food. Without stepping out of the airport, they can shop for local brand name products and even sample local flavours that are uniquely Singapore," Ms Lim continued. She revealed that CAAS will be offering more information on the retail opportunities at Changi's new Terminal 3 later this year and is looking forward to partnering more operators and brands at the new terminal.

Now into the second year, this 'Airport Authority with the Most Supportive Approach to Travel Retail' award was presented to CAAS in London on 10 March 2006 during the Raven Fox Charity Ball. The other nominees for this award this year included the Airport Authority of Hong Kong ( Hong Kong International Airport ) and the BAA ( London Heathrow Airport ). The award was won by BAA last year.
