New Bangkok International Airport construction - UPDATE

Analysis

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Airports of Thailand (AoT) announced the New Bangkok International Airport development panel would today consider the THB48 billion phase II airport expansion project. Phase II, scheduled for completion in five years, includes the construction of:

  • Satellite passenger terminal, THB22 billion;
  • Third runway and aprons on the western part of the airport, THB7.1 billion;
  • Automated people and luggage movers between both terminals, THB 2.4 billion;
  • Tunnel extensions, THB3.9 billion;
  • Public utilities, THB1.6 billion.

AoT is expected to fund 25% of phase II while the remainder is expected to be funded through loans. Phase I of the airport is expected to be completed in Jun-06. Meanwhile, AoT awarded District Cooling System and Power Plant Co a 25-year contract for the provision of electricity and water at the airport.
