Malaysia Airports’ traffic up, Abertis gains on bid speculation
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) reported healthy increases in international passenger numbers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) during Oct-2010.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport reported the following traffic highlights in Oct-2010:
- Passenger numbers: 2.9 million, +10.7% year-on-year;
- International: 2.0 million, +16.1%;
- Domestic: 844,291, -0.5%;
- Cargo volume: 60,633 tonnes, +5.4%;
- Aircraft movements: 21,234, +9.6%.

In further good news for KLIA, Malaysia Airlines has disclosed plans to add 40% capacity in the Indian market in 2011. As part of its 2011 expansion strategy in India, the carrier will increase frequency to its regular destinations, including Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The carrier also plans to switch from the B777, used at present, and introduce A380 aircraft to India by 2012.
MAHB's shares were flat yesterday.
Elsewhere, Abertis Infraestructuras gained 1.4% yesterday as The Sunday Times reported that CVC Capital Partners is preparing a EUR12 billion bid for the Spanish infrastructure company. CVC acquired a minority stake in Abertis earlier this year.
