Malaysia Airlines union suggests MAS parent set up LCC

KUALA LUMPUR (XFNews) - Malaysia Airlines System Employees' Union (MASEU) has proposed that Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd (PMB), the carrier's parent company, should set up its own low-cost carrier, Bernama reported, citing MASEU executive secretary Mustafar Maarof.
This would enable Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to focus on international routes, along with the Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Alor Setar and Langkawi routes, Mustafar Maarof said.
He said the setting up of a low-cost carrier for flights within Malaysia and Southeast Asia region would be more viable and competitive.
Malaysia Airlines would not face major problems in reducing or transferring staff, as MAS and PMB could guarantee jobs for about 1,000 employees, he said.
