Japan Airlines says will join Oneworld global alliance

Analysis

TOKYO (XFNews) - Japan Airlines Co Ltd (JAL) said it has decided to join the Oneworld global airline alliance to enhance its competitiveness.

JAL is the only major carrier in the world with no membership in a global airline group although it does have bilateral alliances.

Oneworld comprises eight airlines including American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, Cathay Pacific and Finnair.

JAL said will maintain its bilateral alliances even after entry into Oneworld in order to provide its passengers easy access to an extensive network, linked services such as frequent flyer mileage plans, and smooth flight connections with other members of the Oneworld network.
