JAL & Hainan Airlines Expand Code Share Agreement on Domestic China Routes

Analysis

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Hainan Airlines (HU) have expanded their code share agreement to cover two additional domestic China routes.

The two airlines have code shared since June 1, 2005 on daily flights operated by Hainan Airlines between Beijing and Chengdu. From April 10, 2006, the new agreement allows JAL to also place its `JL' flight number on the following daily round trip flights operated by Hainan Airlines between Beijing and the cities of Kunming and Xian.

Passenger can start making reservations on these flights from April 7, 2006, pending government approval.

The flights provide smooth connections in Beijing to passengers traveling to Kunming, Xian or Chengdu from Japan. Members of JAL's frequent flyer program, the JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) can also accumulate mileage on these `JL' designated flights.

Hainan Airlines and JAL have also been operating non-stop international code share flights between Kansai International airport, and Haikou in southern China since October 31, 2004.

JAL continues to offer its passengers the largest network between Japan and China. Including code shares, JAL offers 240 flights per week from Japan to 12 destinations in China.
