Interjet IPO decision within two weeks; US airlines report traffic for March

8-Apr-2011

Interjet will make a decision within two weeks whether to hold an IPO. The carrier is in talks with potential underwriters to sell a stake of at least 15%, potentially valued at up to USD200 million. Funds raised would go towards the carrier's plan to double the number of passengers it carries to 8 million by the end of 2011.

Listed carriers in North and South America were weaker yesterday, with the most significant declines at TAM, Southwest Airlines and Republic Airways. The Dow Jones, NASDAQ and S&P500 indexes all closed lower. The major exception was Hawaiian Airlines, which rose 1.4%.

A number of US carriers reported their Mar-2011 traffic performance:

  • Hawaiian Airlines: 732,066, +4% year-on-year;
  • United Continental Holdings: 12.3 million, -2.8%;
  • Southwest Airlines: Revenue passenger numbers: 7.9 million, +3.0% year-on-year. Enplaned passengers: 9.7 million, +5.8%.
  • Allegiant Air:  620,061, +4.8% year-on-year;

Selected Americas share price movements (% change): 07-Apr-2011
