India Traffic Watch - Traffic growth bottoms in Sep-08
Airports Authority of India (AAI) reports passenger numbers at Indian airports in Sep-08 slumped a record 14% year-on-year to 7.6 million, as a result of a “perfect storm” of high costs and slowing in domestic demand (-20.7% to 5.2 million). Indian carriers were forced to raise domestic fares and fuel surcharges in an attempt to offset high oil prices, which consequently had a strongly negative impact on passenger growth. [365 words]
