IATA includes LCC data for “more accurate representation” of total international growth

Premium Analysis

IATA has commenced including data from non-member LCCs and estimates for other non-reporting airlines in its monthly industry traffic reports, to make for a "more accurate representation of total international passenger and freight markets", adding, "all airlines are competing for this traffic". IATA member airlines carry 93% of worldwide international traffic, measured by RPKs, "so this change does not make a large difference", according to the industry body. But the re-cut numbers do show a clear impact on 2009 growth rates, particularly in Europe, the Asia Pacific and African regions.
