Hong Kong Airport voted the most cargo friendly airport

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) and the two major cargo terminal operators at HKIA, namely Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) and Asia Airfreight Terminal Limited (AAT), today received the awards from Hong Kong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Ltd (HAFFA), a member of FAPAA.

FAPAA has a membership of sixteen air cargo associations in the Asia Pacific region and has been established with the dedication in enhancing the growth and development of regional air cargo services since 1985. The Awards of Excellence was organized by FAPAA for the first time with the purpose of encouraging continuous improvement in industry standards.

A survey was conducted among the sixteen member associations and airports were appraised according to their commitments in providing and enhancing cost effectiveness, delivery efficiency and value-added services for the benefits of their air cargo customers.

AA's Chief Executive Officer, Dr David J Pang, welcomed this latest recognition from the industry, "The award to HKIA acknowledged the concerted efforts of our business partners - cargo terminal operators, airlines, ramp handlers and the freight forwarding industry - in service innovations and enhancements. Their commitments and co-operation in providing reliable customer service have firmly established HKIA's international air cargo hub status. The Authority, as a supply chain integrator, will ensure the continuous provision of first-class air cargo services at HKIA."

Mr Anthony Wong, Hactl's Managing Director said, "We are honoured to receive the Awards of Excellence from FAPAA. Being the major cargo handler at Hong Kong International Airport, Hactl's mandate does not just limit us to providing operational expertise and handling capacity to support the industry. We are also committed to facilitating the long-term growth of the industry by driving efficiency gain along the logistics chain for our freight forwarding partners, airline customers as well as the shipping community. This award underlines the fact that our efforts are being recognised by the freight forwarding community in the region."

Chief Executive Officer of AAT, Mr Daniel Soh said, "Our focus has always been on our customers and we are very glad indeed to receive this honour from FAPAA. Our ongoing efforts in improving handling efficiency and simplifying procedures provide a smooth and hassle-free experience for our terminal users. AAT will continue to strive for an even higher level of service in the support of Hong Kong as the premier air cargo hub in the region."

The past year had seen numerous service initiatives at HKIA by the Authority and the two major cargo terminal operators which brought about a record of 3.1 million tones of cargo throughput at HKIA in 2004. In the first seven months of 2005, a total of 1.9 million tonnes of air cargo were handled, a 10% growth in comparison with last year.
