Freight sector looking at uneasy future

Premium Analysis

The freight sector, long a considerable profit contributor

for Asia Pacific airlines, has been mired in the doldrums lately. The International

Air Transport Association (IATA) puts the 1H07 growth rate for global cargo

traffic at a relatively meagre 2.7%, a disappointing return given the previous

period’s high rates of growth and the fact that strong overall economic

conditions – usually a key driver of cargo growth – should have

made for better performance.
