Foreign investment heats up in China

Premium Analysis

At least four airports are in play in China at present, with foreign investors eager to gain a slice of the market, despite the slowdown in traffic that is occurring this year. The Centre estimates domestic passenger traffic fell by around 3% last month - the first monthly decrease since the SARS outbreak in 2003 - due to the shock of the devastating earthquake in Sichuan Province. A huge relief effort was also supported by Chinese airlines, which took aircraft out of commercial services to transport soldiers, medics and relief aid to the affected regions.
