Embraer boosts 2007 jet deliveries by 30 pct, has 18.8 bln usd order book

10-Jan-2008

Embraer said it had ramped up its production process to deal

with the increased orders for its commercial, business and military aircraft

in the past 12 months.

It increased its deliveries by 30 pct over the previous year after hiring new staff, adding a third shift for some production operations and adopting "lean" manufacturing procedures.

The firm, which claims to be one of Brazil's leading exporters, said it had also booked a record order backlog of 18.8 bln usd for new jets at the end of December.

Orders for different Embraer jets have swelled on demand from airlines in the US and Saudi Arabia and the Royal Thai Army, among other customers.

Embraer said its participation in the Dubai Air Show last year had helped boost its order book.

The delivery of 169 jets in 2007 met the company's ramped-up sales goal.

Embraer said it aims to deliver between 195 and 200 jets in 2008 and a similar number in 2009.
