easyJet reaches 50 million passenger milestone, traffic up 19.1% in Jan-2011

easyJet reports it handled 3.7 million passengers in Jan-2011, up 19.1% year-on-year. The result pushed the 12-month moving total past the 50 million passenger milestone (to 50.3 million, up 8.5% year-on-year) for the first time.

Passenger load factor rose 0.8 ppts to 87.1% over the year, but eased 0.4 ppts in Jan-2011 to 78.9%. CEO, Carolyn McCall, said the 50 million mark was an "important milestone". The carrier's shares rose 1.5% to GBP3.85 on Friday.

Monarch Airlines meanwhile reports passenger numbers surged 24.1% in Jan-2011 to 185,191, while load factor rose 2 ppts to 78.7%.
