Cambodia Aviation Part 3: Cambodia Angkor Air expands, Cambodia Bayon Airlines seeks larger role

Premium Analysis

Cambodia is a relatively small but fast expanding market that has traditionally been dominated by foreign airlines. There are now four Cambodian based carriers which combined account for only approximately a 20% share of Cambodia's international market.

Cambodia's colourful airline sector however has seen expansion over the last two years with the launch of Bassaka Air and Cambodia Bayon Airlines along with the expansion of flag carrier Cambodia Angkor Air and leisure carrier Sky Angkor Airlines. Domestic competition has intensified as Bassaka and Cambodia Bayon launched with domestic services. Both have ambitious plans for international expansion while Cambodia Ankgor Air, a local joint venture with Vietnam Airlines, is keen to maintain its market leading position.

This is the third in a series of reports on Cambodia. The first instalment analysed the overall growth in Cambodia's international market. The second report focused on Bassaka Air and Sky Angkor Air; this final report looks at the other two Cambodian carriers, market leader Cambodia Angkor Air and start up Cambodia Bayon Airlines.
