Christchurch International Airport continues trend of passenger growth

Analysis

Christchurch International Airports reports the trend of international

passenger growth at the airport continued in Jul-07, with an overall increase

of 9% year-on-year, and a 5% increase over Jul-05 traffic results.

Some key markets also attained significant percentage increases, such as a 14% year-on-year increase from Melbourne, an 11% increase from Sydney, and a 7% increase from Brisbane. Overall, 136,207 passengers travelled internationally through Christchurch Airport in Jul-07.

Domestic passengers were up 5% year-on-year, reflecting the jump in domestic tourism nationally, as well as the follow-on effect from the increased number of international passengers hubbing through the airport. 337,256 domestic passengers travelled domestically through Christchurch Airport in Jul-07.

"Growth is forecast to continue at this level", says Chief Executive, Rene Bakx, "and is reflective of the tourism promotion undertaken by this airport and our industry partners throughout the South Island and internationally, with over 10,000 more passengers travelling to and from Australia this July than in the previous year." CIAL also works closely with existing airlines to promote the services to Christchurch and with potential new airlines to develop additional routes.
