Mainland China's major state-owned carriers have started 2009 where they left off in 2008: deeply in the red. After staggering combined losses of some USD4 billion last year, the Mainland carriers have turned in a USD200 million operating loss in the first quarter of 2009, according to the Centre's calculations.
