Analysis

Beijing (XFN-ASIA) - The government has vowed to strengthen

research and development as well as production capacity in the civil aviation

sector over the next few years, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Citing sources from the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the report said that China is to focus on setting up research and development platforms for the construction of technologically advanced large aircraft as well as smaller aircraft for regional flights.

Total sales revenue from the manufacturing of aircraft for the civil aviation sector is seen as quadrupling during the period from 2006 to 2010. However, the report did not provide any detailed figures for this.

Earlier this year, the central government approved a plan to develop large commercial aircraft using the country's homegrown technology and domestic manufacturing.
