China Eastern Airlines March passengers up 8 pct, Q1 up 7.15 pct yr-on-yr

Beijing (XFN-ASIA) - China Eastern Airlines said it carried

3.139 mln passengers in March and 8.588 in the first quarter, up 8.0 pct and

7.15 pct year-on-year, respectively.

In a statement, China Eastern said it carried 2.49 mln passengers on domestic flights in March, up 5.13 pct , and 6.69 mln in the first quarter, up 4.47 pct.

The carrier flew 458,810 passengers internationally in March and a total of 1.322 mln in the first quarter, up 30.68 pct and 25.32 pct, respectively.

The airline added that passengers on regional routes -- including Hong Kong and Macau -- rose 1.61 pct year-on-year in February to 188,510.

For the quarter, passenger numbers rose 3.65 pct to 573,370.

China Eastern's passenger load factor for March was 64.72 pct, up 0.07 percentage points.

For the first quarter, China Eastern's passenger load factor was 60.52 pct, down 1.8 percentage points.

The carrier also said it carried 75,540 tons of cargo in March, down 8.46 pct year-on-year.

China Eastern carried 200,130 tons of cargo in the first quarter, down 0.86 pct.
