Two months after a reported merger between China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines was denied by both airlines, China Eastern has confirmed in early Sep-08 that the parents of both airlines are in fact considering joining the carriers together. They have few other options, as the scale of losses at both carriers is considerable - and getting worse by the day.
