Cathay Pacific Feb passengers rise 9.1 pct yr-on-yr

Analysis

HONG KONG (XFNews) - Cathay Pacific Airways said it carried 1.26 mln passengers in February, up 9.1 pct year-on-year.

The airline's average passenger load factor in February was 77.1 pct, down 0.3 percentage points on the same month last year, Cathay said in a statement.

The average cargo load factor in February rose 18.1 pct to 86,705 tons, it said.

February's cargo load factor rose 4 percentage points to 68 pct, reflecting continued directional imbalances, as more goods were shipped from Southern China through Hong Kong than were imported from markets such as the United States, Europe and Australia, it said.

"Business in February was quite solid. Front-end traffic remained robust, though strong competition and aggressive pricing is depressing yields for sales in the back end of the aircraft," said sales and distribution general manager Ian Shiu.

Director & general manager cargo Ron Mathison said the market saw a very slow recovery after the Lunar New Year with orders for new stock coming in later than usual.
