British Airways-Iberia. A bumpy courtship but now buena quimica

Premium Analysis

If British Airways and Iberia do finally manage to get together, as now seems increasingly likely, the last foundation stone will be set in place in Europe's future airline structure - and probably America's too, as American Airlines seeks a close commercial relationship with the British flag, to create a potentially powerful love triangle. It has been a long courtship, with considerable infidelity along the way. British Airways bought its 9% share in Iberia nine years ago and the two have been seeing each other on and off ever since, with BA recently increasing the shareholding to 13.2%.
