Bangalores new International Airport reaches full capacity already. Old airport may reopen.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a report finding capacity at the new Bengaluru International Airport is just 9.8 million passengers p/a, which is less than the 11.4 million capacity reported by airport operator, Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL). According to AAI, the airport has already reached full capacity, violating a clause in the concession agreement BIAL signed with the government. As a result, AAI recommended that the old Bangalore HAL Airport should reopen for civil use until Bengaluru International Airport constructs an additional terminal.
