AirTran not looking forward to Thanksgiving - pays the price of expected slower traffic

Analysis

AirTran paid the price of suggesting that its Thanksgiving traffic would be down a couple of percent on last year. By reminding the market that it competes head to head with the now powerful Delta in their mutual hub of Atlanta, sellers got the jitters again.

And Alaska Air, despite being on the same side as the mighty Delta, following announcement the previous week of a marketing alliance, was even more out of favour, shedding 14.2% on Friday.

North America selected airlines daily share price movements (% change): 21-Nov-08
