Airports of Thailand traffic soars, Aeroports de Paris traffic disappoints

The operator of the country's main gateways reported strong traffic growth in Sep-2009, with passenger numbers rising 18.1% year-on-year, to 4.1 million passengers, driven by the 31% surge in domestic traffic:

• Passenger numbers: 4.1 million, +18.1% year-on-year;
  • International: 2.5 million, +10.9%;
  • Domestic: 1.6 million, +31.0%;
    • Bangkok International Airport: 3.2 million, +22.4%;
      • International: 2.3 million, +9.7%;
      • Domestic: 852,604, +78.6%;
    • Don Mueang: 145,436, -50.1%;
    • Chiang Mai: 229,262, +21.9%;
    • Hat Yai: 120,440, +41.9%;
    • Phuket: 389,942, +36.5%;
    • Chiang Rai: 52,321, +38.3%;
      • Cargo volume: 101,164 tonnes, -6.3%;
      • Aircraft movements: 28,971, +8.0%.

In China, shares in Shanghai and Xiamen airports were down 0.8% and 0.2%, respectively, following the release of Sep-2009 traffic results by the CAAC's East China Regional Administration, which showed mixed results across the region. Passenger growth (+17.3%) eased slightly from Aug-2009 levels, although cargo volumes at the group's airports bounced back.

Positive share performances in the Asia Pacific region yesterday included Japan Airport Terminals (+2.6%) and MAp (+2.5%).

Aeroports de Paris' disappointing traffic send shares down 1.9%

Aeroports de Paris' shares fell 1.9% yesterday following the release of its Sep-2009 traffic results. Traffic across Paris' two airports showed no signs of improvement, as passenger numbers deteriorated from Aug-2009 levels, falling 4.0% to 7.1 million passengers in Sep-2009:

• Passenger numbers: 7.1 million, -4.0% year-on-year;
  • Paris-Charles de Gaulle: 5.0 million, -4.3%;
  • Paris-Orly: 2.1 million, -3.4%;
• Aircraft movements: 62,811, -6.0%;
  • Paris-Charles de Gaulle: 43,766, -7.0%;
  • Paris-Orly: 19,045, -3.7%.

Meanwhile, shares at Ferrovial and Vienna airports also lost ground, closing down 2.8% and 2.1%, respectively. Vienna Airport's competitor, Zurich Airport, went against the trend, gaining 1.8%.
