Air France-KLM to order two more Airbus A380, 30 A320 aircraft - CEO
Paris (AFX) - Air France-KLM chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta
said the group is to order two additional A380s from EADS' unit Airbus and 30
medium-haul aircraft from its A320 range.
Speaking at a presentation of the group's full-year results, Spinetta said Air France had decided to exercise its option to buy an extra two A380s, in addition to its existing order for 10 of the superjumbo passenger planes.
The purchase "is part of an agreement with Airbus relating to compensation for delivery delays" on the A380, Spinetta explained.
The chief executive also said that Air France plans to order 30 medium-haul A320 aircraft and 18 long-haul Boeing 777s, in a bid to renew its ageing fleet.
Spinetta estimated that the renewal of the group's long-haul aircraft should enable it to shave 12 pct off fuel costs by 2012.
At current catalogue prices, the total aircraft order announced today represents an investment of some 7 bln usd.
