About

Ticos Air (also known as TICOS Lineas Aereas de Costa Rica) was a Costa Rican start-up planning to launch operations with Airbus aircraft. The carrier planned to take over TACA Airlines routes dropped after its merger with Avianca. Founder, Gino Renzi said the start-up hoped to launch operations with initial services from its San Jose base to Los Angeles, Miami, New Jersey, Caracas and Mexico City, utilising five 110-seat A319s. However, there reports surfaced that indicated the airline may not launch after it failed to gain its AOC early in Feb-2014.

In Aug-2014, Ticos Air shelved its start-up plans due to problems acquiring aircraft, according to Mr Renzi. The carrier still planned to proceed with its launch plans in the future once funding and aircraft leases are in place. Regulator DGAC director Alvaro Vargas said the certification process will have to begin from scratch if that becomes the case.
