WorldACD: Global air cargo volumes down 12% in Sep-2020, smallest decline since Apr-2020

WorldACD reported (26-Oct-2020) global air cargo volumes decreased 12.5% year-on-year in Sep-2020, which was the smallest decline since Apr-2020. Volumes increased 7% compared to Aug-2020. Yields remained 60% higher year-on-year at around USD2.82 but stabilised compared to Aug-2020. Details for Sep-2020 compared to Aug-2020 include the following:

  • General cargo volumes increased 8% and accounted for 66.5% of total business, up 1pp;
  • Volumes of other product categories increased 4%, including a 7% increase in flowers and a 2% increase in other perishables, vulnerable goods and pharmaceuticals;
  • Volumes increased 11% from Africa, 10% from Europe and 8% from the Middle East and South Asia;
  • Freighter capacity was steady, while cargo capacity on passenger aircraft increased 3%. Passenger cargo capacity increased 15% from Central and South America and 10% from Asia Pacific.
