US carriers cancel services due to snowstorm

American Airlines, Continental Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest Airlines were forced to cancel a number of services on 11-Jan-2011 and 12-Jan-2011 after the north-east US was hit by a second major winter storm (Reuters/AP, 12-Jan-2011). Continental cancelled 244 services, mainly from its hub at Newark Liberty Airport, on 11-Jan-2011 while JetBlue said it has cancelled 109 services on 11-Jan-2011 and 137 services on 12-Jan-2011 across the east coast and mid-Atlantic region. Meanwhile, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey stated more than 1700 services were cancelled over the two days with its airports attempting to resume normal operations on 12-Jan-2011.
