US BTS reports 1% rise in pax numbers to 736.6 million in 2012

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reports (22-Feb-2013) the following total system (domestic and international) traffic results for US airlines:

  • Dec-2012:
    • Passenger numbers: 58.9 million, -0.3% year-on-year;
    • Passenger traffic (RPMs): +0.6%;
    • Capacity (ASMs): -0.3%;
    • Passenger load factor: 81.5%, +0.7 ppt;
  • 12 months ended Dec-2012:
    • Passenger numbers: 736.6 million, +0.8%;
    • Passenger traffic (RPMs): +1.1%;
    • Capacity (ASMs): +0.2%;
