UNWTO: African states outline priority areas for tourism recovery

UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) reported (29-Jun-2020) a survey of member states in Africa revealed the following key areas that member states would like to see prioritised to support recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Unlocking growth through investment promotion and public private partnerships;
  • Promoting innovation and technology;
  • Promoting travel facilitation, including enhanced connectivity and tourism visa policies;
  • Fostering resilience, including through promoting safety and security and crisis communications;
  • Advocating for 'Brand Africa';
  • The top priority in North Africa is expanding capacity building;
  • The top priority in Eastern and Western Africa is promoting better travel facilitation and unlocking tourism growth;
  • The top priority in Southern Africa is advocating for 'Brand Africa';
  • The top priority in Central Africa is strengthening tourism statistics systems;
  • African member states would also like to see UNWTO add a section to the 'Agenda for Africa' focusing on the promotion of regional and domestic tourism. [more - original PR]
