Stockholm Arlanda Airport requires third parallel runway by 2035 to meet long term pax forecasts

Swedavia stated (15-Jan-2020) its long term passenger traffic forecast of 40 million passengers p/a at Stockholm Arlanda Airport by 2040 necessitates the construction and commissioning of a third parallel runway by around 2035. The airport's current runway infrastructure includes two parallel runways and a third cross runway which creates some redundancy and reduces noise load. The operator argued that lacking a third runway by the mid-2030s will mean a lack in capacity which will impact Swedish competitiveness and prosperity. [more - original PR]
