Spanish airport strikes averted, AENA privatisation to go ahead

Spain's Government announced proposed airport strikes will be called off after AENA and unions reached an agreement (Euro Weekly News, 17-Mar-2011). Spanish Premier Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero welcomed the news. Spanish tourism authorities were hoping for a big year in tourist arrivals due to travellers avoiding troubled regions in North Africa. Spain's Ministry for Development announced it would push ahead with the partial (49%) privatisation of AENA now that the principles of an agreement have been reached between AENA management and the unions. Minister Jose Blanco said that the objectives marked by the Government will be met and Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El Prat will be put out to tender before the end of the year (Typically Spanish, 17-Mar-2011).
