Southwest Airlines to extend grounding of 737 MAX fleet until 02-Sep-2019

Southwest Airlines announced (13-Jun-2019) plans to extend the grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX fleet until 02-Sep-2019. The extended grounding will remove approximately 100 daily frequencies from the airline's peak day schedule of more than 4000 daily frequencies. The carrier noted it would be able to reduce cancellations and disruptions to passenger plans by proactively removing the 737 MAX from scheduled service. Southwest said it is still awaiting guidance from Boeing and the US FAA regarding software enhancements made to the 737 MAX and training requirements, but said it is encouraged by progress already made and confident the enhancements will support the aircraft's safe operation.
